Carter Win Waitrose Way Award

Carter Retail Equipment Ltd. have been working in partnership with Waitrose supplying cabinets for the last 10 years. Over the years a lot of time and money has gone into working closely with Waitrose on developments starting with the range of standard HFC remote cases moving onto the Water cooled solution which offers a unique low carbon refrigeration solution, enhanced reliability and efficiency. As well as incorporating Waitrose design changes over the years CRE have also developed an Air cooled integral range of cases, from full height chilled with and without sliding doors and a frozen food integral. This presented a opportunity to supply cabinets on various maintenance and front of store projects as well as their main Convenience programme of Little Waitrose’s. CRE have successfully developed, manufactured, delivered and installed 100% of Waitrose cabinet requirements for the last 4 years, which will continue into 2014 .

CarterRetailEquipmentLtdCRE Managing Director, Nick Gardner and Key Account Manager, Fiona Baxter attended the Waitrose Way Award Ceremony on 19th September held at the new Waitrose Leckford Farm Shop within the Leckford Estate where CRE were presented with the award for ‘Responsible Development Innovation’. Within the 4 areas of the Way Awards there were 15 winners, selected from more than 150 entries, all highlighted the important role their business plays in safeguarding the future of the environment. Presented by Waitrose Managing Director, Mark Price was a certificate and a sustainably-sourced British Oak award.

The award was granted to Carters for the ground breaking technology of the water cooled hydro-carbon display cabinets, developed, designed and tested by Technical Director, Ian Garvey and his team.

AwardsWaitrose clearly recognised the journey CRE have taken over the last 5 years and especially recognised the commitment they made in the early days from taking the initial conceptual idea through the design and performance verification process. CRE demonstrated their long term commitment by investing in new production and testing equipment within their manufacturing facility to ensure they could provide a consistent quality when using hydro-carbon as a refrigerant.

Cover1By the end of this year CRE will have delivered over 6,000 display cases (10,000 separate refrigeration systems) of this type to Waitrose since they installed the first cases into the Altrincham store which opened in 2009. Not one of CRE competitors has demonstrated they can offer a viable alternative or comparable product during this period. However, CRE will not be complacent and have already developed, tested and manufactured a secondary refrigerant solution for cabinets which will be trailed at Chipping Sodbury and Burgess Hill before the end of the year. ”It is key we remain ahead of our competition in all aspects of our refrigeration offering to ensure we continue the successful strategic partnership status with Waitrose for years to come” Fiona Baxter, Key Account Manager.
